Tea Collection: Peppermint

I love keeping peppermint in my tea collection for the very reason of masking some of the more “earthy” flavored herbs. I’m not seasoned enough in herbal tea to be able to drink and enjoy all of the flavors the practice has to offer. So peppermint to the rescue to help me reap the benefits of these herbs without enduring the flavors.

Benefits of Peppermint tea include Nausea relief and digestion support. Headache and ache relief, Relieves sinus pressure (menthol is used in vapor rubs). Peppermint is a mood and energy booster while also providing soothing effects so it’s great for daytime or night time tea.

The Antimicrobial and antibacterial properties of the peppermint leaves make it a wonderful addition to skin care salve and lip balm. The menthol properties help with shower soothers, homemade vapor rubs and aromatherapy.

Did you know that mice and spiders Hate peppermint?! Every winter our old house gains new tenants, both mice and spiders hiding from the cold winter air. I don’t know about you, but I am not fond of either of these tenants. I like to keep a potted peppermint in the kitchen window. I also add peppermint essential oil to my all purpose cleaner to reinforce the scent every time I clean the counters.

Don’t have peppermint available in the garden right now? Not to worry, you can quickly order some here to hold you over until your summer harvest.
