Twisty Things
My tomato cages are fairly bent out shape. Last year my tomatoes got so big that they just tipped the cages right over. I wasn’t able to rescue them until October when I harvest and removed the tomato plants from the garden. They aren’t broken, and could probably be used again, but I fear that I’ll end up in the same situation. Overall, I feel like the cages are cumbersome and take up too much space, I feel like they limit my access to the plants for pruning and harvesting.
While I was at The Home Depot looking at alternatives I saw the twisty things. I had totally forgotten about them. I used two last year to help a couple of my pepper plants stay upright. They had worked so well! Why hadn’t I thought of it before!
I picked up 4 and brought them home. So far so good! My friends on TikTok seem to be mostly excited about them, but there were a few that warned that they’ve tried in them in the past and they just aren’t strong enough for tomatoes. I guess I’ll cross that bridge when I get to it. But for now - they are just looking good in the garden.
I got them at Home Depot for $6 each but they are other places too. One of my TT friends said she saw them at Lowes and I was also able to find them on Amazon in a pack of 10 for $40, so overall, it’s a better deal if you want to support several plants.
