Sourcing Seeds

For years I’ve just picked up the Burpee seed packets from Home Depot or if I was feeling lazy I would just wait for the Bonnie plants to be ready in the nursery. A few years ago I started saving my own seeds and in the recent years I’ve become interested in seeds that aren’t available on the rack at the store.

If you are a part of the garden scene on TikTok you know the theories. That the seeds are bad on purpose, that grocery produce doesn’t have reproducing seeds, that the government is out shut us down from growing our own food. Take that how you may - I don’t buy into conspiracy, but I do buy into heirloom seeds.

So the question became, how do I get my hands on heirloom seeds? Burpee and Bonnie both just provide the basic seeds or plants, nothing special. Etsy to the rescue! Because I am a seasoned Etsy seller myself, I often stop at the maker community first to see how I support a maker (in this case a grower) while fulfilling my need. And I was not disappointed! There are so many varieties of EVERYTHING that I had no idea about! I will admit, I binged a little. I have so many varieties of tomatoes, carrots, radishes, beans, corn and sunflowers in my seed box awaiting next year. And I can’t stop searching!!
